Stoke City's Marko Arnautovic Admits Hunger for Champions League Football

Published on: 03 June 2016

"?Marko Arnautovic has been one of many linked with a move away from Stoke City this summer, and he has maybe dropped the biggest hint yet that he will depart the Potters.

The Austrian, who is currently on international duties with Austria at this years European Championships, told the "?Stoke Sentinel, "I hope of course it [playing in the Champions League] will happen again. Every footballer wants to play in the Champions League because it is the best there is, it's that simple. I hope I will succeed in the near future."

Arnautovic is a man Stoke will be desperate to keep a hold of, as he enjoyed his best ever season in England with them, linking up in an almighty attacking force of Bojan and Xherdan Shaqiri. The Austrian managed 11 goals this season, helping Mark Hughes' side finish in the top half of the table in ninth.

However, despite Stoke's improvement in recent seasons, furthering their name from a typical long ball team and more towards a side who play exciting football, realise they may struggle to keep Arnautovic in England.

Arnautovic has just one year left on his deal, meaning Stoke may be forced to cash in if he does not sign a new contract, or they risk losing the 27-year-old for free next summer.

One club who have been eager to welcome him on-board is French Ligue 1 giants, Paris Saint Germain, who have recently lost one of their greatest players ever in Zlatan Ibrahimovic. PSG could take advantage of the Austrians £12.5m release clause at Stoke, a mere drop in the ocean for a team like PSG.
