Spurs' Mauricio Pochettino Pleased With Improved Champions League Performance Against CSKA Moscow

"?Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino spoke of his happiness at his side's improved Champions League performance after Spurs' 1-0 win over CSKA Moscow in Russia.

Having lost to Monaco 2-1 on their return to the Champions League, delivering a poor performance, Spurs were easily the better of the two teams on Tuesday night and should have won by more, if it wasn't for wasteful finishing. Heung-min Son continued his fine goalscoring form of recent weeks, scoring the only goal as Spurs won 1-0.

Speaking after the game to "?BBC Sport, Pochettino confirmed his pleasure at seeing his side come out on top in what he described as a "must-win" match.

"We've played much better tonight [than against Monaco] but it was a tough game as it's always difficult to play here in Moscow. It was very important for us to get three points here as we were in a must-win position," Pochettino stated.

"We're in the race for the next round. It's a very important three points. But there's four games remaining to play and everything is still open."

With Harry Kane currently sidelined with injury and Vincent Janssen still adapting to Tottenham's style and not yet finishing chances, Spurs fans had voiced concerns over a potential lack of goal threat. The form of Heung-min Son has come as a huge comfort, with the South Korean proving pivotal in wins against Stoke, Sunderland and Middlesbrough, and Pochettino has confirmed his delight at seeing Son perform so well.

"It is very important that not only Harry [Kane], who was good before his injury and scored, that now another player has scored and that is very important for the team.

"I feel very pleased for Sonny {Son Heung-min]. He is on fire and to keep this form is very important for us."

With Monaco stealing a draw with a last minute equaliser against Bayer Leverkusen in the other match in Tottenham's group, Spurs currently sit in second position with the group looking increasingly tight, with all four teams still in with a chance of progressing to the next round after two games.
