Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has revealed his plans to introduce NFL matches in their new 61,000 seater stadium, ESPN reports.
The plans for the stadium, which will host Spurs' home games from the 2018/19 season, are set to include a retractable pitch that will allow a Premier League match and an NFL game to be played on the same day.
Levy, who became Spurs chairman in 2001, has been behind the idea of hosting NFL matches after watching the fan base of American football grow in London and the UK as a whole.
Several high-profile NFL matches have been played at Wembley Stadium, but now Levy has developed the idea and proposes that Tottenham's new stadium could be the home of an American Football team, should the NFL decide to base a team in London.
"We worked together," Levy said. "Because it needed to be viewed as a combined joint soccer and NFL stadium. In fact, the way we designed the whole experience is one side of the stadium is a dedicated soccer entrance and the other side is a dedicated NFL entrance.
"If it ever got to a stage where the NFL decided it wanted to have a permanent team in London, this stadium could literally be, whatever the team was, their stadium as opposed to an NFL team feeling they're renting Tottenham's stadium."
"We would welcome very much close cooperation with the NFL and a dedicated team," Spurs' chairman said. "Obviously a decision is entirely theirs whether they do bring a team to the U.K., and where it would be located is something that would be talked about. But yes, we would be very much welcome to that scenario."
