Spurs Boss Mauricio Pochettino on Dutch Scouting Mission With Vincent Janssen His Target

Published on: 28 May 2016

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino made the trip to Dublin to watch the Republic of Ireland take on the Netherlands on Friday night with reports suggesting he had his eye on AZ Alkmaar striker Vincent Janssen, as reported by the Mirror.

The 21-year-old attacker was making just his second appearance for the national team, with his debut being a scoring one against England in March, after a highly impressive season in the Eredivisie for 2008/09 champions AZ.

The talented youngster has been a revelation in front goal, especially in the latter half of the season; netting 22 goals in 19 appearances taking his tally for the season to 29 goals in all competitions.

His form has alerted clubs all around Europe and Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, along with his staff, made the trip to Dublin to watch the attacker's talents close up.

It is understood that Pochettino is looking for a striker to ease the burden on Premier League top scorer Harry Kane after the England international made over 50 appearances this season with Euro 2016 yet to commence.

But Janssen's form in the Eredivisie has seen his stock rise with AZ valuing him at £15m - it has been reported that Pochettino is unwilling to pay.

The former Almere City player only joined last year and Spurs official deem AZ's initial valuation as unrealistic but a fee in the region of £12m could persuade the north London club to go the extra mile for him.
