Sporting Lisbon Boss Claims Islam Slimani Will Score 'Double' What Vardy Has at Leicester City

Published on: 04 June 2016

Sporting Lisbon boss Jorge Jesus believes that Leicester City target Islam Slimani is capable of scoring twice as many goals as current forward Jamie Vardy, the Mirror reports.

England international Vardy scored 24 league goals to help secure the Premier League title for Leicester City but the lifting of the title could be one of his final acts at the King Power Stadium with the former Fleetwood forward reportedly on the verge of signing for Arsenal.

But the current Sporting boss believes that Leicester will have no trouble in replacing Vardy's goals, predicting that his current star Islam Slimani will score even goals more than Vardy did last season.

The 27-year-old was in sensational form this season scoring 27 league goals for Jesus' side and his manager believes he can replicate that feat in the Premier League.

"Vardy was this year's revelation. People say that Slimani wouldn't be able to play for Leicester but I disagree," he said.

"In England if he is guided by a manager who knows a lot about football, he can score double the goals Vardy does."?

The Foxes signed Vardy for a reported £1m in 2011 from Fleetwood Town but he has gone to make remarkable strides in his five years at the club.

But his time at the club is seemingly at an end after reports emerged that the striker is on the verge of completing a move to North London side Arsenal with a medical at the Emirates imminent.
