Southampton's James Ward-Prowse Hails England Under-21 Champions

"?Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse hailed his England Under-21 team-mates after they beat France Under-20s 2-1 in the final of the Toulon Tournament.

The annual tournament, made up of players generally under the age of 20, was the first Toulon Tournament England had won for 22 years.

Chelsea pair Lewis Baker and Ruben Loftus-Cheek were on target in Sunday's final, with Sol Campbell and Jamie Redknapp the most famous faces the last time England tasted success.

And speaking to FATV about England's heroics, captain Ward-Prowse was understandably delighted at winning silverware.

"It's a day that we will never forget. For me certainly it's been the best achievement of my career so far," reported the "?Daily Mail.

"Collectively as a team it's a real positive sign and I think it can act as a real springboard now for us to kick on as a group and head towards next summer.

"The amount of times you watch teams celebrating, you want to be in those positions and for us to lift the trophy and celebrate a successful two weeks is great."

Gareth Southgate's side called on 20 different starters during the two-week tournament, with England winning all four of their group games conceding just once to set up a showdown with fellow group winners France.

And almost a year on from the Under-21s' dismal showing in the European Championships where they finished bottom, Ward-Prowse gave credit to the squad for an impressive victory.

"I think a lot of people were questioning us in big games and I think we proved that we can cope with the pressure.

"We worked during the week and in the meetings we had. The training and the way the manager has coached us has given us the chance to win this tournament.

"I think everybody deserves a lot of credit."
