Southampton Refuse to Budge on £40m Valuation on Liverpool and Man Utd Target Sadio Mane

Southampton have insisted they will remain firm in their valuation of winger Sadio Mane as only a bid of more than £40m for the Liverpool and Manchester United target will change their stance, Squawka News reports.

The 24-year-old has played an integral role in Southampton's impressive two successive campaigns with the Saints, finishing last season in 6th place and securing Europa League football again.

But his form in the Premier League over the last two seasons has alerted Premier League giants Liverpool and Manchester United to making him one of their top targets to turn around their current fortunes.

Liverpool had been heavily linked with a move for Bayern Munich play-maker Mario Gotze since the start of the year but the German decided against a move to Anfield recently.

A potential move for Mane would continue a common trend for Liverpool in recent years having taken the likes of Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert, Dejan Lovren, and Nathaniel Clyne from Saint Mary's.

Their North-West rivals, Manchester United, have struggled for pace and direct dribbling and the Senegal international had been strongly linked with a move at the beginning of this season but a move never materialised.

But both teams are reported to be preparing for a fresh assault on Southampton's resolve with recent reports suggesting that the Saints will settle for no less than £40m for a player who was signed for a reported £11.8m in 2014.

Mane, however, is reportedly keen on a move to a top European club and reports claim the 24-year-old has no intention of signing an extension on his current deal that has two years to run.

A significant aspect within the transfer saga is the future of current boss Ronald Koeman with the Dutchman on the verge of becoming Everton's new boss.

Koeman had been resolute in his stance over the future of Mane, even at one point saying the player "could sit in the stands" until his contract ran out if he did not remain committed to Southampton.

But with his departure being imminent, a bidding war between Manchester United and Liverpool could occur, but it seems only on Southampton's terms.
