Serie A 2016-17: Five things to look out for in Round Two

Published on: 25 August 2016

Last week saw notable results for Pescara and Chievo, as the former claimed a draw against Napoli while the Flying Donkeys beat Inter .

The second round of Serie A action this season has therefore become a whole lot more interesting, with the big guns aiming to redeem themselves following poor results over the past week in Italy and in Europe, while the smaller sides can look to capitalise on their current good form.

With plenty of tasty ties to look forward to on Saturday and Sunday, here are the top five things to look out for this weekend.

1. The minnows

Newly promoted Pescara and Chievo do not have the same quality or squad depth as the likes of Inter and Juventus, but they both showed last week that they are capable of getting a result against them.

The Delfini held Napoli to a 2-2 draw, while the Mussi Volanti earned a huge 2-0 victory over Inter, and they both have arguably easier clashes this weekend.

Pescara travel to Sassuolo, who will be recovering from their midweek European action against Red Star Belgrade, and will see an opportunity to grab another unexpected three points to hold a surprising 100 per cent record in the opening two games this term.

Chievo, meanwhile, travel to Fiorentina, who will pose a tough challenge but picked up no points last week, albeit thanks to a loss to champions Juventus.

Last week’s victims Napoli and Inter host AC Milan and Palermo respectively.

It is unlikely to last for a long period of time, but the end of this weekend could see an inverted league table in which Pescara and Chievo lead the way, while Inter and Napoli sit at the bottom, and Leicester City showed in the English Premier League that anything is possible.
