Sepp Blatter Claims to Have Witnessed Fixed Tournament Draws While FIFA President

"?Disgraced former FIFA president Sepp Blatter has controversially claimed to have been witness to fixed competition draws in the past, with specific balls having been either warmed or cooled to distinguish them from others in the pot.

The 80-year-old, who finally stepped aside as head of world football's governing body earlier this year, has distanced himself from any involvement in such corruption.

In quotes published by Swiss newspaper Blick, Blatter claimed he saw "cheating" in a draw for a European club competition, therefore under the control of UEFA, although he declined to mention which side was involved or when it took place.

"I saw it with my own eyes and it was like cheating," he said.

"It was for a European competition. Only one team has managed that. It was an Italian side. You can see the balls that are drawn identified either by making them hot, or if they have been cooled. I was a witness."

Despite all of the corruption scandal that has enveloped FIFA over the last 18 months, and his own personal ban from all footballing activities, Blatter has long maintained his innocence. This time is certainly no different.

"I've never drawn lots! Other presidents did," he said.

"They have taken the balls themselves from the pot. I was clean to the last. I have never violated the criminal law. I have a clear conscience."

Blatter served as FIFA president from 1998 until 2016 and endured a long list of public and private controversies during his time in charge. He has always maintained he had no knowledge of bribery or other scandals while those around him toppled.
