"?Despite Scotland being pipped to the third place play-off by the Republic of Ireland, Scot Charlie Adam has revealed that he will still be backing the Irish in their European endeavours.

The Stoke City midfielder has said that he will still be flying to France this month to cheer on his team mates - including Jon Walters, Marc Wilson, Shay Given and Glenn Whelan - even though the 30-year-old's national side missed out on a place in the competition after finishing 4th in the qualifying group.

Speaking to "?Goal, the former Liverpool play-maker said: "I'll try and spend a couple of days in France.

"It's right on the door step and I'd like to see the Irish lads from here [Stoke] do well.

"It's great for them to get a chance to go to the Euros and play; they deserve it. They got the results that mattered in qualifying.

"I'll be rooting for the home nations, of course, but some of the Ireland lads are my pals, so I'll be keeping a closer eye on them."

During qualification, Adam played both games against the Irish picking up four points in the process.

However, a shock defeat to Georgia allowed the Irish to leapfrog the Scots into 3rd place, pitting them against Bosnia & Herzegovina in a two-legged play-off game.

Adam's Stoke City team mate Jonathan Walters scored twice - once from the spot - in the return fixture after a 1-1 draw in the first leg, putting Ireland through.

"I was delighted to see my buddy Jonny [Walters] score twice against Bosnia and I'm equally delighted for the other Stoke lads who have done a great job too."
