Ryan Giggs Set to Follow Louis van Gaal Out of Old Trafford Despite Coaching Job Offer

Published on: 22 May 2016

"?Ryan Giggs is said to be on the verge of following manager Louis van Gaal out of Manchester United this week, with Jose Mourinho set to come in and shake up the current state of the backroom at Old Trafford.

ESPN FC report that Giggs is set to be offered a different role in Mourinho's setup to his current position as assistant manager, the Welshman likely to be asked to take over a less pivotal coaching role after acting as assistant manager to both Van Gaal and David Moyes before him.

Mourinho and a number of other figures in the club are said to be hoping that the 42-year-old remains at Old Trafford to add his vast knowledge and understanding of the club to the new regime, but it's thought that the club legend is said to be more likely to reject the offer.

Giggs' next move is as yet unknown - possibly even to the man himself, given the chaotic situation at Old Trafford - but it's thought that he may finally strike out as a manager in his own right, adding to the four games in which he took charge of United as caretaker manager in 2014.

The move to replace Van Gaal with Mourinho is expected to be completed over the course of the coming days, with the Dutchman reportedly informed on Monday that he was being relieved of his position - barely 36 hours after lifting the FA Cup at Wembley.

United were expected to make a statement to confirm Van Gaal's dismissal on Monday lunchtime, but an expected 1pm release came and went without a peep from the club or the manager.
