Ryan Giggs' Manchester United Future in the Balance as He Demands Talks With Jose Mourinho

Published on: 28 May 2016

Manchester United stalwart Ryan Giggs has reportedly demanded a meeting with new United boss Jose Mourinho to discuss whether or not the Welshman will be part of the Portuguese's backroom staff, according to the Mirror.

The 42-year-old has been at United for nearly three decades, but his association with the club is now seemingly under threat with the appointment of Jose Mourinho last week.

It is understood the Welshman is currently on holiday, but Mourinho's appointment has raised fears over his future and he has decided to set up a meeting with the former Real Madrid boss before making his decision on his next move.

Following David Moyes' departure in 2014, Giggs became assistant manager in the 2014/15 season under Louis van Gaal after the club and Van Gaal himself decided it would be necessary to keep the club legend as part of the backroom staff.

But Rui Faria, Mourinho's long-time friend and assistant, is expected to become assistant manager at United after occupying the same role with Mourinho at Chelsea, Inter, and Real Madrid.

With Faria taking the assistant role, there has been speculation Giggs could be offered a different role on Mourinho's coaching staff but whatever role he is offered, would be deemed as a demotion.

The role that he has reportedly been offered- a coach that interlinks the first team players with the u-21 team- is the role the Welshman will discuss with Mourinho.

But reports claim if he isn't given assurances the role is worthwhile, the 13-time Premier League winner will end his 29-year stay at Old Trafford and head for pastures new.
