Romelu Lukaku Says Chelsea Disappointment Drives Him to Better Things in Nike Video

Published on: 06 June 2016

"?Nike Training have released a new 'Inner Strength' video starring Everton and Belgium star Romelu Lukaku, in which the 23-year-old reveals how his rejection at Chelsea has spurred him on towards bigger and better things.

Lukaku is set to kick off Belgium's Euro 2016 campaign against Italy on Monday, and he said in the video:

"I just want to win the Euros, that's it. I just want to be at my top level at the Euros like the rest of my teammates."

Having been sold off by Jose Mourinho after a short spell at his 'dream club' Chelsea, Lukaku has spent the last two years rebuilding his career and reputation at Goodison Park with Everton.

Speaking about his rejection by Chelsea, he said: "I've always been a winner since I was a kid, but reality hit me in the face.

"Going to your dream team as an 18-year-old - don't get a chance to play. You go back you think you're going to play...out again the year after. And then at the end of the year you get sold. It's hard. I just wanted an opportunity to play."

He continued: "You need to train to improve yourself. I would really train to improve myself every single day, because I really wanted to prove to them that I deserve to play. I'm at the level where I should be in my career. This year I played 42 games and scored 25 goals, there you go. I'm ready to take over the game."

The determined striker ended: "You train how you play, right? If it's training or a game - I don't play. If you've got three players playing for your place, you'd better be that dude. You'd better be that dude that scores the goals."
