Roberto Di Matteo Warns Aston Villa Players of Consequences If His Rules Are Broken

"?Newly appointed Aston Villa manager Roberto Di Matteo has warned his players that if they step out of line and break his rules, there will be consequences.

In a season where Aston Villa were relegated for the first time since the 1986-87 season, there were various incidents that saw some players heavily criticised by both fans and pundits.

But Di Matteo has made it clear that he will not tolerate such behaviour while managing the Championship side.

The Champions League winning manager told Mail Online: "we are going to have our rules, our code of conduct and if someone steps outside there are certainly going to be consequences.

"I will have discussions with all the players, not just one or two. At the end of the day, there are rules people have to obey."

In November last year, Jack Grealish was sent to play with the Under 21 squad when reports emerged that the 20-year-old had taken a trip to a Manchester nightclub hours after Aston Villa had lost 4-0 at Everton, while Brad Guzan and Joleon Lescott enraged the Villa faithful when they decided to play a game involving chewing gum on the bench when their side drew 1-1 with League 2 club Wycombe in the FA Cup.

Lescott also felt the wrath of Aston Villa supporters when he tweeted a picture of a Mercedes-AMG S 63 Coupe by 'accident' and so did Gabby Agbonlahor when he was deemed unfit by caretaker manager Eric Black towards the end of the season.
