Roberto Di Matteo Plans £50m Summer Spending Spree

"?Aston Villa's new manager Roberto Di Matteo will receive transfer funds in excess of £50m this summer in an attempt to guide the team back to the Premier League, according to the Express and Star.

The soon-to-be new Villa owner Tony Xia will make these funds available in order to revamp the side that finished rock bottom of the Premier League last season.

Aston Villa won just three Premier League games all season, in a torrid season on the park, with off-field problems too dominating the headlines and causing the ire from within the stands.

Gabriel Agbonlahor and Joleon Lescott were singled out for the brunt of the supporters wrath, with the latter - a self-confessed Villa fan - apparently unfazed by the club's relegation.

However, with new management in place, both players, provided they survive the expected cull, will be under strict instructions and surveillance next season, after Di Matteo and his new assistant manager Steve Clarke received a statement issued by the Villa Supporters Trust ordering them to remove any player at the club that causes unwanted problems.

The statement said, "You have a lot to do and can start with removing those that were so influential in the dressing room disharmony last season. It is the first of many jobs that needs doing this summer."

Tony Xia's takeover however, is not yet set in stone, and several FA bodies are scrutinising the deal that is in place. If the deal to purchase the club does fall through, Villa may not be able to mount the final outburst that many Villa fans had been hoping for.
