Players and officials of Rivers Angels Sports Club of Port Harcourt have been rewarded for their sterling display in the 2016 Nigeria (Women’s) Federation Cup.

The Angels defeated Bayelsa Queens 5-3 on penalties (after scores at regulation time stood at 1-1) in the showpiece game of this year’s final decided at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos on November 6.

At a colourful reception/dinner party in honour of the football club at the Rivers State Government House on Friday, financial rewards were doled out to the team for their superb showing in the competition.

Announcing the rewards, the governor of Rivers State, Ezenwo Nyeson Wike (CON), praised the girls for the feat and charged them to claim the double.

“Each of the players will go home with the sum of N300,000 while the officials will receive N500,000.

“When you win the league (title), you know what will happen,” Wike said.

Also speaking at the occasion, Rivers State sports commissioner, Honourable Boma Iyaye praised the Angels for winning the title.

He described Rivers Angels as the best women’s football club in the country and charged them to gun for more success.

“Rivers Angels produce (a large percentage) of players to the Nigerian women’s national teams at all cadres.

“They have done very well for themselves and we (Rivers State Government) will continue to support them to achieve more,” he said.
