Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has revealed Barcelona and former Liverpool star Luis Suarez was a tough opponent to play against, but insists he has faced a more difficult opponent, he told BT Sport and as reported in the Sport Bible.
The 37-year-old played in Europe's premier competition for well over a decade, winning it in 2008 and finishing as runner up in 2009 and 2011.
But 2011 saw the arrival of Luis Suarez at fierce rivals Liverpool and the Uruguayan became Ferdinand and Manchester United's chief tormentor in the Premier League.
But Ferdinand believes in the winter of 2008 on United's route to a third European Cup, he faced his toughest ever opponent - Karim Benzema.
The then 20-year-old was leading the line for perennial Ligue 1 champions Olympique Lyonnais and the two met in the last 16 of the Champions League.
Benzema proved to be a handful for the England international scoring a sensational left-footed pile driver in a tight space in the first leg.
The Frenchman went on play for one of the biggest clubs in Europe and ahead of the Champions League final last Saturday and Ferdinand revealed the difficulty the Real Madrid marksman posed.
The 37-year-old said: "From a personal experience of playing against both of those players; I found it harder to play against him because he was very cute.
"He was very efficient in all areas, off his right and left foot, his movement was cute and sometimes you don't see it glaringly but he does cute little things that can take you out of position that other players can exploit.
"When he gets the ball he's got a quick trigger. Suarez is equally as difficult but I just found him a little bit more."
