"?Wolfsburg left-back Ricardo Rodriguez has revealed God wanted him to stay at the Bundesliga club after proposed moves to Arsenal and Chelsea in the summer failed to materialise

The Switzerland international was linked with a Premier League move, only for Chelsea to opt for Fiorentina's Marcos Alonso instead and Rodriguez insists that he is happy and settled at Wolfsburg, cooling any lingering speculation about a move away.

"I guess it was just meant to be this way. God wanted it this way," Rodriguez told "?Blick.

"You just need the right timing for a transfer and it's a fact that during this transfer window, there were hardly any transfers of players in my position."

Rodriguez also said he believes his price-tag shouldn't be an issue if a club approaches Wolfsburg in the future.

"I don't think €25m is too much for me. I'm only 24 and I already have more than four years of experience as a regular in the Bundesliga and the national team and over €40m has been spent on players with less going for them" he added.

"To be honest I don't think any footballer is worth so much, but these are the mechanics of professional football.

"I have a contract here until 2019 and I've been here for four-and-a-half years and established quite a reputation within the team. Everything's good, believe me.

Rodriguez has made 157 appearances for Wolfsburg since joining from FC Zurich in 2012, while also making 41 caps for his country.
