Carvalho and Mourinho worked with each other at Porto, Chelsea and Real Madrid and the pair lifted several domestic titles as well as the Champions League.
Mourinho has recently taken over the Red Devils' managerial reins and he is being tasked with restoring them to the summit of English football.
Since Sir Alex Fergsuon's retirement, United have been in free-fall but Carvalho remains adamant that their new boss will reverse their fortunes.
"I know that Jose will be a success at Manchester United" the 38-year-old told reporters.
"I have no doubt that that he can bring trophies back to United again and that he will make them champions.
"I don't know if it will be in the first year, the second year or the third, but he will win the title again. My prediction is that it will be in the second year."
Carvalho is currently preparing for the European Championships with Portugal and he believes that his countryman won't be overshadowed by Ferguson's daunting legacy.
"United have struggled since Alex Ferguson retired, but Jose can be the one to replace him", the veteran defender continued.
"He will not worry what went before. He will want to make his own success.
"Jose deserves to be at the biggest clubs because he is one of the top coaches.
"?"He has the quality to make Manchester United win again."
