REVEALED: Andrea Pirlo Lifts the Lid on the 2 Clubs He Regrets Never Signing For

Published on: 15 November 2016

Italian footballing legend Andrea Pirlo has basically won it all in football and is one of the coolest cats in the game.

He was famously playing PlayStation games just hours before winning the World Cup with Italy in 2006. He's won the Champions League twice, pocketed countless Serie A titles, and has his own vineyard(s). He has won at life.

But even the great midfielder has regrets. And he's lifted the lid on the two teams he wished he'd signed for in his prime, during an extended interview with "?Marca Plus.

Pirlo spent over a decade with AC Milan, after starting out at Brescia and signing for Inter Milan as a youngster.

While at Brescia, the six-time Scudetto winner crossed paths with a certain Pep Guardiola - who he named as the world's best coach in the interview - and revealed that he held discussions with Pep over a possible move to Barcelona in the past.

On Guardiola, he said: "He's number one, without a doubt. Look at what he did with Barcelona and also Bayern Munich. Above all he's a person I've had the pleasure of knowing, I admire and respect him.

"How did I feel when he wanted to sign me? How could you not want to go there! We were facing the best team in the world and he told me he wanted me in the team.

"He met me in his office after the game [a pre-season friendly], we spoke for a long time. We speak quite often now, because we have mutual friends in Brescia."

It wasn't only Barcelona that the young Pirlo had eyes for, either. The classy passer went on to disclose that he fancied a move to Barcelona's arch-rivals Real Madrid too. Whether he would have liked to play for both, as opposed to just one of the two, remains to be seen.

He said on Real: "Any player would like to play for them. Fabio Capello was there and there were a lot of rumours circulating about Milan's future with the Calciopoli scandal.

"Milan wouldn't let me go, and they gave me a new contract. It's true that unfortunately they wouldn't let me leave, but at the same time I spent 10 years at Milan, winning everything there was to win.

"I also played for all of the best teams in Italy.

"I still have a thorn in my side at not having played for Real Madrid or Barcelona, because playing there is a dream for every player, but I consider myself very satisfied to have played for the best teams in Italy."
