Referee Mike Dean Blasted From Every Angle on Twitter Following Poor Performance in Man Utd Win

Published on: 02 January 2017

"?Mike Dean yet again thrust himself into the limelight following his performance during Manchester United's 2-0 win over West Ham.

The referee controversially sent off Nathan Redmond during Tottenham's win over Southampton last week, and yet again felt the need to change the whole complexion of a Premier League game when he sent off Hammers midfielder Sofiane Feghouli for a challenge on United defender Phil Jones.

If that decision wasn't bad enough, his team of officials were again lambasted for allowing Zlatan Ibrahimovic's offside strike to stand. Unsurprisingly, Dean has been criticised from just about every angle following his less than desirable performance, with the likes of Gary Lineker, Niall Quinn and John Arne Riise lampooning the 48-year-old.

Former referee Mark Halsey has also had his say, claiming Dean was influenced by Jones' dramatic reaction and also by his failure to send off Everton's Ross Barkley for an ugly challenge on Jordan Henderson during the Merseyside derby in December.

"Because he missed the Barkley challenge, I think it's at the back of his mind," Halsey told talkSPORT as quoted by "?Four Four Two.

"He looked away. If you look at the challenge, Phil Jones comes in more strongly. It's a fair challenge, they've both gone for the ball.

"I think Mike's got this wrong and I can see West Ham appealing.

"I have to say, Mike's turned round and seen Phil rolling around. He may be hurt but when you are hurt, you stay still. I think the way he's rolled around, he's injured himself the way he's gone into the challenge."

Ex-Liverpool defender Riise also voiced his opinion, urging officials at the FA to relieve the referee of his duties.

Mike Dean is finished! So so so bad! He gets worse and worse every week. Take the whistle from him please!

Everybody makes mistakes, also refs. All the players want is a ref you can speak to, who admits his mistake and have a little smile. Not hard

Pundit Niall Quinn also entered the debate, describing the officiating as "rank bad refereeing".

Niall Quinn, definitely not a Mike Dean fan: "The arrogance alone puts me off. He wants to be centre of attention. It's rank bad refereeing" pic.twitter.com/LrOuzUu9qA

"?"?Match of the Day presenter Gary Linekar also chimed in, stating on the programme (as quoted by "?the Mirror) that Dean "does seem to seek a little attention on occasions."

That is an absurd red card. Ridiculous decision. Mike Dean has dropped a real Feghouli.

The Premier League will take a break this weekend with FA Cup "?"?fixtures set to take place, and with officials yet to be appointed, all clubs will be praying they avoid being given Dean as their referee given his poor recent record.
