Rashford and Borthwick-Jackson Close to Signing New Manchester United Deals

Published on: 28 May 2016

One of the biggest accomplishments of Louis van Gaal at Manchester United was encouraging youth talent and that has led to two of Old Trafford's most promising prospects Marcus Rashford and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson receiving improved contracts.

Rashford broke into Van Gaal's first-team in spectacular fashion last season, scoring eight goals in 18 games after his inception in February, establishing himself in the starting line-up.

The 18-year-old also became the youngest England player ever to score on his debut after he struck against Australia during their friendly on Friday - and he's set to sign a new five-year deal with United believed to be worth £20,000-a-week.

Borthwick-Jackson, 19, made his debut in November and racked up 14 appearances in the first-team, while also being named United's Under-21 Player of the Year.

According to "?Manchester Evening News, the club plan to announce both deals this week, bringing further good news after a week that ended with the unveiling of Jose Mourinho as Van Gaal's successor.

While Manchester United fans firmly expect Mourinho to maintain the club's tradition of fostering youth talent, the Portuguese coach is also minded to build a squad chock full of elite players. The coach is interested in bringing Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Old Trafford on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain, while rumours continue to swirl over Romelu Lukaku and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

In addition to that, Mourinho is believed to be eyeing up a deal for Everton centre-half John Stones and Athletic Bilbao's Aymeric Laporte, who has been consistently linked with a move to United for the past two years. Sporting Lisbon's Joao Mario, Valencia's Andre Gomes and Juventus pair Paul Pogba and Stefano Sturaro are the names on United's midfield wishlist.
