Rafa Benitez wants to make former Liverpool defender Daniel Agger his first signing as Newcastle boss, according to the Gazette.
Benitez, so far, hasn't confirmed whether or not he will remain with the club and help take them back up to the Premier League but nevertheless remains a popular figure with the Toon support.
He signed Agger for Liverpool back in 2006, and they won the FA Cup together that very season. The player stayed with Liverpool for eight years, even resisting the lure of Barcelona.
However, he would leave for Danish outfit Brondby, making a return to the club that the Reds had signed him from. The 31-year-old is still held in high regard by Liverpool fans, however.
Benitez, meanwhile, needs to plug some holes at the back if he is to remain Newcastle boss. Apparently, he holds the defender in high regard as well and fancies a reunion with the man he signed 10 years ago.
It would really be great to see him stay on at St, James' Park and return the Magpies to the Premier League.
