According to"? Football Italia, Edinson Cavani has come out and claimed he had 'considered a return to Serie A' (reportedly with former club Napoli) before ultimately deciding to renew with PSG - and while that renewal is yet to be confirmed, it is expected to happen shortly.
"There was a chance to return to Italy," Cavani told Corriere dello Sport.
"In football sometimes things happen that are outside of your control, leading the club to make decisions.
"Last year I did not play further forward, as I love to do. Instead I played more on the outside. That is why I was considering the idea of returning to Serie A. But in the end I decided to stay at PSG."
Asked if his decision to stay in Paris was perhaps influenced by Zlatan Ibrahimovic deciding to move onto Manchester United, Cavani said: "He has nothing to do with the decision, and anyway, we won together. We were not at odds but I need my space there up front.
"I remain tied to the teams where I played, especially at Napoli. I continue to watch the matches on television, whenever I can. I saw the game against Pescara and I enjoyed it.
"The game with Real Madrid will be important. I hope that Napoli give a good account of themselves. One of our endeavours can be repeated, like it was with City and Chelsea.''
A final word was reserved for current Napoli boss Maurizio
"[Maurizio] Sarri? His is an offensive football, fast and beautiful. His aim is to score, making it fun and fantastic for the audience. Scudetto? I do not know if Napoli can win it but I'll be cheering them on!"
