Premier League Target Axel Witsel Wants to Move to England or Italy This Summer

"?Zenit St Petersburg and Belgium midfielder Axel Witsel has been linked with a move to the likes of Tottenham, Everton and Stoke in recent weeks and months and has given suitors a boost after admitting he would be keen on a move to the Premier League ahead of the 2016/17 campaign.

Witsel, who moved to Russia from Portugal in 2012, also expressed a desire to play in Italy.

"I'd like to play in the Premier League or Italy next season," the 27-year-old is quoted as saying by Gazzetta dello Sport, adding, "I would try an experience in another league, a new challenge."

Witsel became one of the most expensive midfielder in history when he left Benfica for Zenit for €40m, moving to Russia at the same time as equally expensive Brazilian striker Hulk.

Both players were criticised at the time for chasing money, but Witsel has retained a good reputation following strong performances in the Champions League and with the Belgian national team in their rise to prominence.

At Spurs he would join a strong contingent of fellow countrymen, while his arrival would certainly fit Everton's new found ambition. although you might question if the lack of Champions League football at Goodison Park might be a potential deal breaker.

Witsel's desire to play for a 'big European club' may also hinder Stoke's chances, despite the incredible growth the Potters have experienced in the last few years.

"I hope to step up a level and play at a big European club," the player said.

"My future may be in Italy or England. It doesn't matter if I go to Serie A or the Premier League as long as it's a great club."

Milan and Roma are two the Italian sides rumoured to be keeping tabs on the situation.
