Premier League Scouts Head to Vienna in Numbers for Austria's World Cup Qualifier With Wales

Published on: 06 October 2016

A total of nine scouts will be in attendance for Austria's World Cup qualifier vs Wales on Thursday, with Premier League sides Everton, Sunderland, Manchester United and Watford all being represented.

Other scouts who will be in attendance include those of Bristol City and Newcastle United, as well as Serbia's national team and Atlanta and Juventus of Italy's Serie A.

Chris Coleman's side will be hoping to continue where they left off in Group D, having confidently thrashed Moldova 4-0 in their last group-game.

Austria meanwhile also recorded three points in their Group D opener, beating minnows Georgia 2-1 in Tbilisi.

While David Alaba and Aleksandar Dragovic will be the two standout talents for the hosts on Thursday, manager Marcel Koller has also called upon a number of youngsters for the clash with Wales.

Koller called up 22-year-old midfielder Marcel Sabitzer, who has reportedly been on Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund's radar in the past.

Stefan Ilsanker, Valentino Lazaro and Alessandro Schoepf are others that will be kept on close watch on Thursday as respective scouts plot for January's vital transfer window.

Although Wales' spirited display at Euro 2016 saw them earn a semi-final spot, Austria boss Koller believes Chris Coleman's side 'were lucky', while admitting that the Dragos have good self-confidence.

"?"During the Euros they were lucky that a match did not turn in another direction," he said, as quoted in the "?Mirror. "I think that helped the Welsh team get a really good portion of self confidence."

Three days after playing against the Euro 2016 semi-finalists Austria will travel to Serbia before welcoming the visit of Ireland one month later.
