"?Liverpool target Piotr Zielinski has revealed that his decision to move to Napoli was the best option for his development after both the Premier League side and his new Italian club went head-to-head in pursuit of the Polish international.
"?Quoted in Football Italia after speaking to Sportowefakty, Zielinski brought an end to months of transfer speculation after making the move across Italy from Udinese for £17m last month, confessing that the opportunity to work under Maurizio Sarri again was one he could not pass up.
The 22-year-old has spent the last two years on loan at Empoli, having played just 19 times for his parent club since making his breakthrough there in 2012.
During his time in Florence, Zielinski worked under the new Napoli manager, Sarri who had bought Empoli back into the top flight of Italian football at the second time of asking.
Following a respectable time with the club, Sarri was elected as Rafael Benitez's replacement at the Stadio San Paolo in 2015, with Zielinski's transfer reuniting the pair once more.
The Pole revealed that despite talks with Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool, he could not turn down the opportunity to work with his former boss once more.
"With Liverpool, there were talks but it didn't happen, but I'm happy to be at Napoli. They're one of the best teams for a 22-year-old to join.
"Looking at their style of play and my qualities, I couldn't have made a better choice."
Revealing his reasons for joining Napoli the former Empoli man, reserved high praise for the manager he scored five times under at his previous club.
"When we met in the summer, the Coach hugged me warmly and told me he couldn't wait to have me in Naples.
"Sarri appreciates my skills, he's a great Coach and I'm glad I can work with him again," he added.
