Coach Gernot Rohr has declared that no player in the Super Eagles is guaranteed a permanent shirt in the squad as he strategies ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.

Presently, the Super Eagles top the table in Group B with six points from the two matches played so far and will face the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in a double header fixture on August 28 and September 2, respectively which will be followed with a home game against the Chipolopolo of Zambia before rounding off the qualifiers in Algeria against the Desert Foxes.

The German tactician, who spoke in Lagos on Tuesday said that players will be selected for every encounter based on current form as he is determined to build a formidable Super Eagles squad.

According to the former Gabon, Niger Republic and Burkina Faso coach, he has been monitoring the progress of Nigerian players abroad to see those he can invite to strengthen the Super Eagles.

“Nobody should assume he has a permanent shirt in the team. Every player must merit his position in the team. You must prove you are the best for the position because for me I don’t believe in past form but present.

“My objective is to have young players, who love this country and are ready always to do their best for the country. Nigeria is blessed with good players and I’m ready to work with them,” he said.

Although, Rohr claims to be enjoying a good working relationship with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), he prayed that the issue of unpaid players’ bonuses becomes a thing of the past.

“We’re working in harmony but it’s important that bonuses of players are paid on time,” he warned.
