Nigeria Miss Out On CAF Youth Tournament After Draw

The U-17 and U-20 Africa Cup of Nations will go on without Nigeria as the country failed to qualify for both competitions – the Flying Eagles were defending champions of the U-20 .  The draws for the events were hosted Today.

Nigeria failed to qualify for any of the competitions that will be hosted next year suffering major upsets in the two cadres.

The Flying Eagles could not consolidate on their 2-1 away win against Sudan in the final round as they were stunned 4-3 in Lagos by the underdogs; losing 5-5 on away goals difference.

Subsequently, Manu Garba’s Eaglets , who got a bye in the first round, were ably dispatched by second round opponents, Nigeria 3-1 in the second leg – Nigeria had won the first leg at home 1-0.

The Eaglets are current holders of the FIFA U-17 World Cup.

CAF Africa U-17 Cup of Nations

Group A – Madagascar, Guinea, Cameroon, Ghana.

Group B – Mali, Congo, Angola, Niger. CAF Africa U-20 Cup of Nations

Group A – Zambia, Guinea, Egypt, Mali.

Group B – Senegal, Sudan, Cameroon, South Africa.

The U-17 and U-20 tournaments are billed for next year and will be hosted by Madagascar and Zambia respectively and they will also serve as the qualifiers for their respective FIFA World Cup tournaments.
