Moussa Sissoko: I Hope to Leave Newcastle for Arsenal

Published on: 06 June 2016

"?Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko has admitted that he is angling for a transfer to a Champions League club and, in particular, Arsenal, this summer.

Arsenal have been linked with the Frenchman in the past, although it remains to be seen whether their interest in Sissoko is concrete enough to materialise in a formal bid.

Sissoko, however, is keen to leave Newcastle, who will be playing in the Championship next season, even if Rafael Benitez is intent on keeping his best players.

"I would like to continue my career in England, in a club that plays Champions League football because I think that the English league suits my style of play the best," he told Foot Mercato h/t GFFN

"Having said that, I am not closing any doors. We don't know what is going to happen tomorrow. My advisors and I are open to everything. We will make the best possible decision."

"It is very flattering," he said of Arsenal's rumoured interest. "Arsenal is one of the best European teams. To be watched by that sort of club, that proves that you are a quality player. It is good to know. I hope that I will have the chance, soon, to play for this club or for a similar club.

"It is a very big European club. I think that very few people would refuse to play for this club.

"Everyone knows, I often said it when I was young, Arsenal is the club of my heart, because there were quite a few French players there like Thierry Henry, Robert Pirès, Sylvain Wiltord, Patrick Vieira who was my idol.

"The beautiful Arsenal. We will see. I cannot tell you if I am going to go to Arsenal. For the moment, I am focused on the French national team and the Euros.

"I have advisors who are dealing with all of that and I hope that things will go well with as little difficulty as possible for me to find another club."
