Mourinho Given £270m Budget as He Attempts to Convince David de Gea to Stay at Man Utd

"?Jose Mourinho will be given a mammoth £270m transfer budget to bring Manchester United back to the pinnacle of English football when he joins as manager, though he's already been hard at work attempting to convince David de Gea to stay at Old Trafford.

De Gea was on the verge of joining Real Madrid on transfer deadline day last summer, though the transfer fell through and the Spaniard ended up signing a new United contract.

Reports are rife that Real will again pursue the goalkeeper this summer, though according to the Star, Mourinho has already been in contact with the player to discuss his long-term future before taking the job at United.

The report claims that Mourinho assured De Gea that United would be competing to win major trophies under his guidance, in an attempt to convince his new star man to shun any further approaches from the Champions League finalists.

Real are reported to have an option to sign De Gea so long as they trigger a £39m release clause they have in place before June 15. The clause is said to expire after that date, leaving Real with just over three weeks to decide if they move for the player.

Though Mourinho has already attempted to keep De Gea at Old Trafford with a phone call before taking the job at United, and "?Manchester Evening News even claim that the player has made up his mind about staying at the club.

A separate report from Portuguese newspaper Diário de Notícias claims he will be "?given an additional £270m to make improvements to his squad this summer.

Mourinho is set to be officially announced as United manager on Wednesday, but will be given the mammoth sum of money to bring in big name stars, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, John Stones and Raphael Varane the first three names on his list.

Portuguese trio João Mário, Ruben Neves and André Gomes are also reported to be on the Special One's radar.
