After spending much of his career in England, with Everton and later Arsenal, Mikel Arteta looks set to remain in the Premier League in a new coaching role. Arteta will be able to offer Guardiola an insight into the Premier League, having been here since 2005, whilst also holding a similar outlook on the on the former Barcelona manager's possession based football.
As Arteta's stint as a player began to wind down in North London he earned his coaching badges and now looks set to make the first move into a new phase of his career. After numerous reports linking him to City and also Spurs, Gianluca Di Marzio reports that it is very likely that Arteta will become assistant manager to his friend Pep Guardiola at City.
The former Arsenal midfielder, who has just hung up his boots, is a close friend of the incoming City boss after playing in Barcelona's academy while Guardiola was a first-team regular. Although Arteta has never had a major coaching role before, he has gained experience by working with the Gunners Under 13s and Wales' Under 16s.
Guardiola is also reportedly set to bring in fitness coach Lorenzo Buenaventura - another friend of Arteta - with him to the Etihad when his contract expires at the end of the season as the former Barcelona man looks to achieve what none of his predecessors could manage, bring a Champions League trophy to the blue half of Manchester.
