Mignolet Place in Doubt as Goalkeeping Hotshot Fires First Team Warning

Published on: 01 June 2016

"?New Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius has fired a warning to current Reds number one Simon Mignolet, saying that he hasn't come to Anfield to sit on the bench and make up the numbers in Jurgen Klopp's squad.

Quoted on the club's official website after his recent transfer from Mainz, the 22-year-old revealed that he wanted to be Klopp's main man in goal, and hoped to drag the Reds back into European competition after a disappointing 2015/16 campaign left them without any continental action next season.

Speaking about his plans for the next season, he said: "Competition is just part of a big club like this. I want to become the No. 1, have success with Liverpool and play in Europe as soon as possible. Those are my goals."?

Anfield and the club's Melwood training ground also seemed to impress the departing Mainz stopper, saying that he enjoyed being shown around the club before signing his contract. "The day before I signed the contract I was shown around the club and its surroundings, I was immediately convinced that this would be the right and the next important step in my career."?

He also revealed to "?Sport Bild recently that Jurgen Klopp played a part in his decision, saying: "He was a big factor, because he is one of the best coaches in the world and has shown how well he brings young players through.

The young stopper went on to add: "The tradition of the team, this atmosphere, is not so common in the world. And of course, I will be financially improved with such a transfer. All in all the perfect total package."
