"?"?Middlesbrough have today confirmed the signing of Danish international Viktor Fischer from Ajax for a fee reported to be in the region of £3.8m.
The 21-year-old winger has signed a three-year deal at the Riverside stadium, and will join the club once the international transfer window opens on June 9. The player has in recent years been the subject of interest from the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United, however the Dane had always elected to stay in the Eredivisie with Ajax.
Fischer has over 100 senior appearances to his name since joining Ajax and scored an impressive 11 goals in 39 showings for the Amsterdam side last season, including a goal in the Europa League against Scottish champions Celtic.
The highly-rated youngster has appeared eight times for national side Denmark, scoring one goal.
"This means a lot," said Fischer speaking to Danish TV station TV2
"It's why I've taken this move. I would really like (to play in the Premier League) - it's the greatest league in the world and I feel really ready.
"And the welcoming I've received over there, I feel part of it now. That's the most important thing, I've realised."
Asked about whether he's confident of naling down a first-team place at Boro, Fischer added:
"We'll see. I assume I'm at the same level as everyone else (in the squad) - maybe with a little head start, but like everyone else I want to prove that.
"I should play. (But) this isn't Holland anymore - this is the Premier League. It's on another level."
The move marks Middlesbrough's first foray into the transfer market, as they prepare for their first season in the Premier league since 2008-09.
