Perth Glory have confirmed that Michael Carrick has secured a contract extension with Manchester United after he rejected their advances, the Manchester Evening News report.
Doubts surrounded the veteran midfielder's future at Old Trafford after he played a reduced role throughout the campaign.
The 34-year-old's deal expires in the summer but the Red Devils have sprung into action after he was contacted by a number of potential suitors.
Perth Glory were interested in acquiring Carrick's services but they have revealed he is set to stay with United.
Speaking to Four Four Two, the Australian outfit's CEO Peter Filopolous said "It was a long shot opportunity due to Richard Garcia's relationship with Michael.
"Perth was an option for Michael Carrick as he was going through what he was going to do in his career had he not landed a new signature with Manchester United.
"We understand he's now secured an extension with Manchester United so that's off the table.
"It certainly was an option for him and his family for lifestyle reasons."
Since joining the club back in 2006, Carrick has made nearly 300 appearances for the Red Devils and MUTV presenter Paddy Crerand expressed his joy at the news he will be staying.
Speaking on his show last week, Crerand said "Something that happened today that nobody has mentioned, and I'm delighted that he has signed another contract: Michael Carrick.
"He's signed a contract for another year.
"There was a situation where it looked as if his contract was up at the end of this year and that was it, but from what I'm gathering he is there for another year."
