Mesut Ozil Appears to Criticise Form of Arsenal Teammate Olivier Giroud on Social Media

Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil has appeared to criticise his teammate Olivier Giroud by liking a picture on Instagram that criticised the Frenchman's poor run of form in the second half of the season.

The 27-year-old ended the season with 19 assists - just one shy of the record Arsenal legend Thierry Henry set. But the German had been on 15 assists in December and at the time, it appeared that he would break the record with ease.

But Giroud suffered an alarming dip in form despite Ozil still operating at the same level in terms of chances created after the Christmas period.

Giroud's poor run of form coincided with Arsenal handing the initiative to Leicester and Tottenham in the title race as the Gunners struggled away from home while losing a costly home game against Swansea.

A number of Arsenal fans have been divided over this apparent betrayal in the Arsenal squad but some believe the Germany international has every right to feel aggrieved by the chances squandered by Giroud in the title run in.

There have been rumours of Arsenal reportedly looking for a new striker but Wenger has recently come out and reaffirmed his faith in the France international's ability to lead the Gunners' strike force.

Wenger said "Yes" when asked whether Giroud will be his starting striker for the 2016/17 season before highlighting the 29-year-old's qualities.

"After that it's down to compete. Olivier has strong and weak moments so we have to deal with that.

"He is a bit unbelievable - he is in cycles. He scores in spells and then sometimes he scores less," Wenger added.
