Memphis Dropped From Manchester United Squad for FA Cup Final

Published on: 19 May 2016

"?Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has left winger Memphis Depay out of his squad for Saturday's FA Cup final against Crystal Palace at Wembley, ending the former PSV man's debut season at the club in disappointing fashion.

The "?Manchester Evening News reported that both Depay and youngster Cameron Borthwick-Jackson were not on the team bus when it left their Carrington training complex on Friday, with Memphis dropped from Van Gaal's matchday squad for the first time in this season.

It's said that Van Gaal informed his players of who would miss out on English football's end-of-season showcase event on Thursday, despite the squad having a final training session on Friday to hammer things out before leaving for Wembley.

The decision leaves Daley Blind as the only man to feature in Van Gaal's matchday squad for every single game of the season - a testament to both Blind's effectiveness in defence and the number of players in the United setup who have suffered from injury issues at some point during the campaign.

Memphis hasn't contributed to a goal for the club since scoring in both legs of their Europa League last-32 tie against Midtjylland back in February, with November's game against Watford the last time he was involved in a goal for his club in domestic competition - scoring just twice in the entire Premier League season and not notching a single assist.

Rumours have swirled about the 22-year-old's future at Old Trafford, after he started fewer than half of United's league games in his debut season despite United shelling out a hefty £26m to secure his signature.
