Published on: 05 October 2016

Striker "?Mauro Icardi is set to sign a new contract to stay with Italian side Inter Milan, according to his agent and wife Wanda Nara.

Speaking to "?TUTTOmercatoWEB, Nara has admitted that it shouldn't be too long before he signs a contract extension, stating: "To be perfectly honest, I don't know [if it will be just a matter of days], but I definitely think that everything is practically done, and we are happy."

The 23-year-old has been in fine goalscoring form since signing with the club in 2013, scoring 53 goals in 96 appearances, making him a target for Europe's elite clubs.

His goalscoring and overall game has led to him being named club captain last season, a great feat for someone so young.

No player in Europe's top 5 leagues has scored more goals than Mauro Icardi (6) this season.

He only has one cap for Argentina. https://t.co/jI9dNfRnbY

So far this season, he has scored an impressive six goals in seven games, supplying most of the club's goals. Despite this however, he has only been capped once for Argentina since his debut.

Icardi signed a contract extension last year, which would keep him with the side until 2019. A new contract will be put in place to stop interest from a host of sides, including Napoli who were said to be keen to sign him in the summer.

Fans will be hoping that he does stay with the club, as they chase a top four finish once again under new manager Frank de Boer.

The Italian side currently sit 9th in the table, winning three of their first seven matches. They are currently seven points behind leaders Juventus, but will be hoping their star striker can fire them up the table.
