Mathieu Debuchy is set to return to Arsenal next season, according to "?L'Equipe, having failed to achieve his stated aim of making the French national squad ahead of the forthcoming European Championships in France later this month.
The right-back spent the second half of the season on loan at Ligue 1 side Bordeaux after finding his first team opportunities with the Gunners curtailed by the majestic form of Spaniard Hector Bellerin.
However, the Frenchman sustained a thigh injury during his team's 1-1 draw against Paris Saint-Germain in May and subsequently failed to make France coach Didier Deschamps' 23-man squad for the tournament.
The 30-year-old had struggled with injury since signing for Arsenal from Newcastle United in 2014, with ankle ligament damage and a dislocated shoulder keeping him out of action for more than six months.
Debuchy then lost his place in the starting XI to Hector Bellerin who has been the club's leading light in an otherwise lacklustre season, and was granted a temporary loan move by manager Arsene Wenger in order to impress Deschamps ahead of the Championship.
Debuchy has previously been "?linked with Premier League rivals West Ham United, and it now seems that the former Lille player is unwilling to remain in France and will return for the Gunners pre-season in order to stake a claim for the first team.
Wenger is expected to be active in the transfer market this summer, particularly for defensive reinforcements, and has already competed the signing of the much-coveted midfielder Granit Xhaka from German side Borussia Monchengladbach.
