Rashford came on for Adam Lallana in the 73rd minute of the match, making his competitive international debut at the age of 18 years and 229 days, four days younger than Rooney was when he played against France during Euro 2004.
It has been a remarkable ride for the youngster. He only made his senior-team debut for United in February, scoring a brace against Danish side Midtjylland in a Europa League match. He scored another brace three days later, this time against Arsenal in a Premier League fixture.
Rashford continued his stunning form with goals against Manchester City, West Ham United, Aston Villa and Bournemouth. He received a senior call-up as a result, and impressed even further by scoring the opening goal in England's 2-1 win against Australia in a warm-up match ahead of the Euros.
