Marco Reus Determined to Return Stronger After Euro 2016 Disappointment

Borussia "?Dortmund forward Marco Reus has spoken of his determination to return stronger after being excluded from the German national team ahead of Euro 2016.

 

The 27-year-old picked up an adductor injury which was aggravated in the DFB-Pokal final loss to rivals Bayern Munich on penalties last month. This forced Joachim Low to cut Reus from his preliminary squad to take to France.

 

The Dortmund man has vowed to come back stronger and is now focused on being fit for the start of the 2016/17 Bundesliga season.

 

 

Speaking on his "?Facebook page Reus said "Unfortunately it was an injury to the adductor in the DFB-Pokal final once again and it continued to worsen as the game progressed.

 

"Afterwards I tried for 10 days, together with the DFB doctors to get back to fitness and be ready for the European Championship.

 

"Unfortunately, we were not able to introduce the desired rapid healing process.

 

"Since the doctors could give no positive outlook towards the Euro, we jointly decided after a discussion with the national team coach that it is neither in the team's interests, nor for my own health, to travel with the team to France.

 

"The most important thing in the coming weeks will be to process the injury to recover with the clear objective to be 100 per cent fit for Borussia Dortmund and challenge for the national team again.

 

"Joachim Low and the team I wish you every success and all the best at the European Championship in France. I will come back!"

 

Reus also missed the Germans 2014 World Cup win in Brazil due to injury.

 

Joachim Low's side are second favourites with the bookies, behind hosts France, to go all the way in Euro 2016 this summer and it could well be another trophy that Reus

 

Germany's first game in the tournament is against Ukraine on Sunday 12th June.
