Manchester United to Imminently Announce Sacking of Manager Louis van Gaal

"?Manchester United are expected to announce the sacking of manager Louis van Gaal after two years in charge at Old Trafford on Monday.

Mail Online report that the decision has already been taken, though as it stands, the club have not officially commented on the decision to relieve the Dutchman of his duties. The news is however expected to be confirmed later today when the club make a statement to the press.

Van Gaal's coaching staff - including assistant coach Albert Stuivenberg and goalkeeping coach Frans Hoek - have also reportedly left the club with immediate effect. They were informed of the decision taken by the club by executive vice chairman Ed Woodward at 8:45am on Monday morning.

The coaches concerned were present alongside Van Gaal in the meeting, and learned of their fate at the same time as the former Dutch national coach. Van Gaal led United to the FA Cup on Saturday - the club's first major trophy since Sir Alex Ferguson's departure in 2013 - though a disappointing fifth placed finish in the Premier League and poor performance in Europe has contributed to his dismissal.

United are expected to appoint former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho as his successor, with his agent Jorge Mendes due to fly to Manchester for talks on Tuesday.
