Incoming Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is to launch a bid for "?Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic, according to the "?"?Daily Mirror.

Mourinho worked alongside 27-year-old Matic during their time together at Chelsea, before the Portuguese manager was sacked in December 2015.

The self-appointed 'Special One' is now ready to try and sign the Serbia international as part of a £200m spending spree that will see him overhaul United's ageing squad.

Matic re-joined Chelsea from Portuguese side Benfica for £18.75m in January 2014, after initially being sold to the 35-time Primeira Liga winners for £3.75m in July 2011.

The defensive midfielder has made 114 appearances since moving back to Stamford Bridge, winning the Barclays Premier League and Capital One Cup during that time.

Mourinho is also said to be running the rule over Everton centre back John Stones and Real Madrid defender Raphale Varane as he looks to inject a youthful energy and quality into the Red Devils' backline.

The 53-year-old tried to entice Stones to London while Chelsea boss last summer, but then-Everton manager Roberto Martinez rejected three bids for the 21-year-old's services as he foiled Mourinho's attempts to prize one of his star assets from Goodison Park.

United are also said to be interested in deals to bring Sporting Lisbon midfielder Joao Mario and Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic to the club.

Ibrahimovic, 34 has been linked with a free transfer move to Manchester in recent months despite reservations from his wife over moving to England, while 23-year-old Mario could cost upwards of £10m after impressing in all 47 appearances for Lisbon last season.

Mourinho's representatives are due to meet officials from Old Trafford on Tuesday morning to finalise the details of his contract.

The former Porto, Inter Milan and Real Madrid manager will take charge with immediate effect following the sacking of previous manager Louis van Gaal on Monday afternoon.
