Manchester City Set to Battle It Out With City Rivals to Sign Real Madrid Midfielder James Rodriguez

"?Manchester City are the latest of several clubs interested in signing Real Madrid's influential midfielder James Rodriquez, according to reports in "?Spain.

They face stiff competition from a number of top European clubs, notably their city-rivals Manchester United.

The 24-year-old midfielder is currently on international duty with the Colombian national team at Copa America, however this hasn't stopped a range of transfer speculation surrounding the player after an admittedly poor season for Real Madrid.

Paris Saint Germain and Bayern Munich are also both keen on Rodriguez, with Real Madrid seemingly willing to listen to offers for the former Porto man after he fell down Zinedine Zidane's pecking order at the Bernabeu.

Both Manchester clubs are reportedly favourites to sign the 24-year-old, with incoming managers Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho holding the player in high regard.

Guardiola also has his eyes set on Spanish international Isco, who is also not considered a first-team regular by Real Madrid coach Zidane.

While Mourinho still has his eyes firmly focussed on Rodriguez, who has scored 25 goals at Real Madrid over two seasons.

Earlier this week the player claimed his aim was to "?'stay at a big club like Real Madrid', whether this means staying in the Spanish capital or a move to a club of the same stature as Madrid remains unclear, several suitors including both Manchester clubs will happily snap up the skilful midfielder.
