Man Utd Legend Keen on Old Trafford Return as Jose Mourinho Struggles With Left Back Choices

Published on: 04 January 2017

"?Patrice Evra is said to be keen on a move back to Manchester United sooner rather than later, just two and a half years after he left Old Trafford in the summer of 2014 to join Juventus.

The reigning Italian champions only paid £1.5m for the veteran left back, who has lost his first team place to Alex Sandro this season after being an integral part of Massimiliano Allegri's defence in his first two seasons at the club.

The "?Mirror report that his love for United combined with his reduction in game time, which has seen him start just three Serie A games all season, have left him considering a return to the north of England to join back up with the club where he won five Premier League titles and a European Cup.

Left back is the one position Jose Mourinho has yet to settle on a true first-choice man for, with Daley Blind, Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo and Matteo Darmian all featuring on the flank in the first half of the season.

With his contract expiring in the summer, Evra would likely be allowed to leave Turin in this month's transfer window for a nominal fee - as much as a 35-year-old second choice left back with just six months left on his contract could realistically expect to demand.

Rio Ferdinand helped rev up the speculation surrounding a potential move this week when he posted a picture of himself and the veteran France international on Instagram, captioned: "Throwing it out there... @patrice.evra I'm hearing thru social media u coming home bro?!? Talk to me!"

Evra 'replied' with a picture of his own, adding: "Only my monkey knows what's will happening next. I love this game!"
