"?Ilkay Gundogan has revealed that he sought the advice of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp before he decided to move to the Premier League.

Gundogan moved to Manchester City during the summer transfer window from Borussia Dortmund for a reported £21m.

Gundogan told Sport Bild, via "?FourFourTwo, "To be honest, I asked Klopp's advice whether the Premier League would be the right move for me.

"He gave a positive response and told me I would feel well here and that the Premier League would be perfect for me. It was good to hear him confirm my impression of the Premier League."

The German international was keen to leave the Bundesliga having been there since 2008 to embark on a new challenge, but was unsure whether the Premier League was the right destination for him.

Gundogan chose to speak to Klopp after the two worked together during their days at Borussia Dortmund, with Klopp affirming to the midfielder that it was the place to come.

Gundogan also revealed that working under the helm of Pep Guardiola was also a factor in his move to Manchester City.

Gundogan said, "Guardiola has an incredible aura that surrounds him. Everybody who knows something about football knows that Pep's team have always been extremely dominant and also extremely successful."

"It is a sign of appreciation when he wants to sign a certain player. And I was the first player he wanted. And I was injured at the time as well, I think that says a thing or two."

"Guardiola is very, very demanding. But you will continue to develop if you do what he expects from you."
