Mamadou Sakho Set to Miss Euro 2016 Despite Doping Suspension Being Lifted

Mamadou Sakho is not expected to take part in France's Euro 2016 campaign, despite being cleared of doping charges by UEFA.

The Liverpool defender was suspended back in April after being testing positive for a fat burner  called higenamine but UEFA are not expected to take any further action against the 26-year-old.

If UEFA announce the cessation of Sakho's suspension, he is technically available for selection by France manager Didier Deschamps for Euro 2016, but it may be too late for the player.

Uefa said in a statement: "The 30-day provisional suspension ends today. The chairman of the control, ethics and disciplinary body decided not to extend it. The player would thus be free to play as from tomorrow. A decision on the case will be made within the next few days."?

National teams have until Tuesday to submit their final squads for this summer's tournament and Sakho is not expected to be selected by Deschamps. Sakho submitted a defence to UEFA's disciplinary committee last Monday on the grounds that the substance should not even be on the World Anti Doping Agency's (WADA) list of banned substances.

Sakho and Liverpool are both yet to comment on the most recent developments. The player has continued to train twice a day during his suspension in the hope that he may make it into Deschamps' squad, but it looks more likely that a season increasingly mired in torment will conclude with exclusion from his country's hosting of the tournament.

Defenders Jeremy Mathieu and Raphael Varane have already withdrawn from the France squad through injury, and although a replacement has already been called up in Lyon's Samuel Umtiti, Deschamps was believed to be weighing up the possibility of bringing Sakho, but we'll have to wait and see.
