Former Manchester United manager "?Louis van Gaal was planning to move for Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen before his departure according to "?PA's Tom Allnutt.
The Spurs star was central and at the top of his game as the North London outfit finished in third place although they appeared to be Leicester City's biggest threat towards the end of the season.
Interesting LVG snidbit. Told #thfc's Christian Eriksen was very high on Van Gaal's wishlist if he had stayed at #mufc this summer.
While Spurs would certainly be against selling such an important player to a major rival, Eriksen is only under contract until 2018.
Tottenham have been working to convince the Denmark international to sign a new deal that would see his current £30,000 per week wages more than doubled.
The 24-year-old would certainly be able to get at least that much from Man United who are significantly stronger than Spurs in terms of financial spending power.
The issue would then be whether Jose Mourinho rates Eriksen highly enough to make a move for him.
With Van Gaal's departure confirmed, Mourinho is expected to be announced as the Dutchman's successor imminently although Man United have refused to shed light on the matter so far.
Pursuing Eriksen will likely take a backseat as Mourinho has been more closely linked with moves for "?former pupils of his including Napoli's Gonzalo Higuain.
