Liverpool Send Scouts to Italy to Observe Sassuolo striker Gregoire Defrel

"?Liverpool reportedly sent scouts to observe Sasuolo striker Gregoire Defrel on Sunday.

The French forward has been playing quite well this season, and scored for the Italian club against Atletico Bilbao in their Europa League tie against Athletico Bilbao last week.

He kept the good form going over the weekend, scoring with his head against Genoa in a Serie A match on Sunday.

According to the "?Express, Jurgen Klopp is a huge admirer of the player, and wants to bring him to Anfield in January. The German is said to have instructed his scouts to return with a detailed report on the striker.

The report also claims that Klopp is desperate to add another striker to his squad, with the aim of getting competition for Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi.

The 25-year-old Frenchman was a target for Crystal Palace during the summer, and a reported £11m bid was rejected.

Defrel has spent all of his career in Italy to date, having joined Parma in 2009.

He moved to Cesena three years later, and helped them gain promotion to Serie B, then signing for Sassuolo in 2015.

He has scored five goals in his last six Europa League appearances, and has ostensibly caught Klopp's attention. The former Dortmund boss will be keeping close watch as the season develops.

Liverpool have strung some good results together this season. They were victorious over Chelsea on Friday, beating the Blues 2-1 and ensuring that their slip-up against Burnley was just that - a slip-up.

Klopp is aiming for a top four finish this season, and may rely on Defrel's help to secure that next year.
