Liverpool Rule Out Signing of Aston Villa Left-Back Jordan Amavi

Published on: 04 June 2016

Liverpool have reportedly ruled out the potential signing of Aston Villa's French defender Jordan Amavi, despite speculation earlier this week claiming the Reds had made an enquiry for the 22-year old.

Earlier this week, French newspaper L'Equipe claimed that Liverpool were among the favourites to sign the pacy defender alongside AC Milan and Lyon.

"?However, the "?Liverpool Echo have countered their claims, stating that the reports are wide of the mark and there is no interest for the defender, who is currently recovering from a serious knee injury.

Liverpool are still on the hunt for a new left-back after a succession for poor performances from Spaniard Alberto Moreno, notably in the Europa League final when the 23-year old endured a torrid time up against his former club Sevilla.

Amavi made a positive start to his career at Villa Park, becoming one of their standout performers in the opening months of the season. However, his knee injury prematurely ended his season, leaving him helpless to prevent Villa's inevitable relegation.

L'Equipe reported that Liverpool were prepared to bid around £11m for the defender, but it now appears that no bid or enquiry was ever placed, meaning that Jurgen Klopp will continue his search elsewhere for defensive reinforcements.
